There will be in the next version of Moodle (2.0) -something called Conditional Activities which will do this. However there is something currently called Activity Locking- which does similar. I haven't tried it though.
Thanks for this, the Activity locking module does exactly what I wanted; stops lessons being accessed until they have passed a certain score mark in the previous lessons test.
