Nice. I added it to the MoodleDoc page on HTML linking as an idea. This trick can also be used in other activities, because a link is a link.
I believe modules push their grades to Gradebook. Which I believe means that the student will have to complete the lesson (or activity) to see the grade. As Ben pointed out, there is the ongoing score setting.
