Hi folks,

After a quick perusal of the Moodle Roadmap, I'd thought I'd share some ideas for changes to the Moodle 1.9.X gradebook. As a college, we have large class sections so these interface features pertain particularly to large classes of several hundred students or for supersections (combined sections of the same course for the same teacher)

1) For large class sizes, Can't view the header for the column when scroll
down, and for many grade fields, can't view student name at left when typing
grades in. I have to put my finger on the screen, hold it there while I
scroll around and hope I put a score in the right box. Not good.

-- So how about frames or equivalent of windowpanes so you can see both the header and the students' names in the left hand column.

2) Time delay in clicking the "contract" and "expand" column sections in
the grade entering spreadsheet. So, if I have a quiz to input, to see it on
the screen with the student's name, I have to hit the column icon multiple
times, wait for a refresh, then enter the number. Then to input a test
score, I have to contract the previous and expand the next item. It takes
time.

-- Once again windowpanes/frames might work though they are not (UA) accessible to make it easier to get to the column/row combo so that a teacher can enter grades quickly.

3) Must hit enter at the bottom to record changes. If I forget, I lose
them all and/or if I get logged out or disconnected, I have to start all
over. Sometimes, I hit enter, and due to glitch of some type, the system
does not record the changes and I have to start over again (not often,
though).

-- Perhaps we need a javascript warning after a teacher begins adding grades but before a teacher can navigate to another browser window OR close a browser window

4) No ability to edit a single students score (like in Micrograde). I
have to go to the full spreadsheet view to enter one grade, or correct a
single grade. Also, having all the grades on the screen at once, increases
the chances that one might inadvertently change someone else's grade by
mistake.

-- Might this work better if we added a way to enter a grade through viewing an individual student's grades tab in the student's profile/activity reports area?
