Which DMS for Moodle?

Which DMS for Moodle?

There has been much discussions on this forum for years about a linking a DMS with Moodle. Martin D even had a large tick list praising myDMS in the past but nothing has happened.
I understand in version 2.0 Alfresco will be supported - my only question is why? or why is this the first one?
Alfresco looks great but it is java based (thus Tomcat) and not LAMP. Why is this a problem? Hosting services HATE Tomcat (something to do with being resource hungry) - I can't find an Australian host that will support Tomcat (unless I buy my own server).
So a move to Alfresco alienates those smaller organisations using hosted servers (like most primary schools).
Maybe Alfresco is the best out there but for me, I have to use myDMS (contrary to rumours - it is still supported - even if limitied) as it is LAMP.
There is no real connection to Moodle except URL references to documents - this URL is constant not matter how often the original document is upgrade -which is why it is used.
If I could pass username and password between myDMS and Moodle I'd be happy.

It is the first one because thats what has been built so far. 微笑

Like modules/themes/plugins the portfolio system is designed to be extended. So far development has been done on Alfresco, Box.net and Flickr. But that is certainly not the end of it, Dan P for instance is currently working on a GoogleDocs repository plugin. There is also talk about Facebook, Myspace and Hive as well

The API is open and freely available for anyone to use and tie in with their systems. Would love to see development with tools such as myDMS. The trick is to find funding or a developer wishing to take it on.

Know anyone else willing to help bring to fruition a myDMS plugin?

Julian

I can't speak for Moodle HQ but there was a lot of community interest in Alfresco, which would have encouraged its selection. It also has a simple PHP API that makes it pretty easy to integrate.

The repository API is designed to allow any repository to be integrated, as long as it supports a minimal set of functions via a PHP API, so it probably won't be long before many additional repositories of all flavours are available.

I don't know much about myDMS but it is surely a candidate and if there is the will in the community.

Anyone else want myDMS?
