Quoting a post in a reply

Is there a way to automatically quote the text of a message I'm replying to in a forum discussion? I've looked all around the reply window and the teacher documentation and even have been through student manuals at a few sites (not just for this question!) and I don't remember ever seeing this addressed.

Often when I'm responding to a post I want to respond individually to different portions of the original post. Right now I copy/paste from the original post and put in italic and bold commands by hand to delineate the original text. I was just wondering what I'm missing.

Maybe this is a request ... when replying to a post have two options "Reply" and "Quoted Reply" and then some formatting could be there to start with?

There is no way currently apart from cut and paste ... if there isn't a feature request filed on this there should be.
