Front Page content - Newbie question

Front Page content - Newbie question

Hi,

How do I get text at the top of the front page of Moodle.
I´ve seen it in various samples. But haven´t found a way to
do it myself.
Tried the Front Page setting editing the text but that just gives me
a small square with text.

Has it something to do with:
"Include a topic section" ?

I that case could someone tell me how to find a place to add and edit topic sections?

I know this is a newbie question - but please give me a hand.

Jonnie

Hi Jonnie,

This stumped me for a while too. What you do is got to Site Adminstration->Front Page->Front Page Settings then turn on the option for Include a topic section.

Return to your Front Page and click on the button "Turn editing on". You can then add Resources and Activities to your new Topic section.

Enjoy!

Re: Front Page content - Newbie question

Jonnie Elovsson -
Just tried to do this now.
I tried - Compose a Text page and Compose a web page.
But all I get up front is a link to my pages.

For instance the moodle.org home page has all sorts of content
displayed...
"Welcome to Moodle!""
"
Moodle Community"
and so forth..

How is that done? I feel incredibly stupid here - I do not understand.

The link to the stylesheet changes is what moodle.org does to create its front page look.

Another option is for you to create a label inside the topic. Inside this label, you can have a table, graphics, links, or whatever you want. Some people have created some very nice content in this way.

You might give it a try!

Julian Ridden -
I think what you are after is "Add a label" to add content directly to the page. I used tht to add all the material on the top of my moodle page.

Examples at:

Jonnie Elovsson -
Thank you for all your suggestions.
I will fiddle around and see if I can accomplish what I want.
If not I will return with more newbie questions wink

Tried label first and it works fine, thanks Julian.

But if I add an image adding content with the html-editor to the label, the image does not show.
Not in the editor and not at the page.
I have already posted a similar question about this.

Sandy Warner -

I went round and round with that one, only I wanted a graphic.  I tried the label one, but they have bullets next to them which moved the graphic off center.

Finally I discovered something I had not seen before.  When you turn editing on, there will be a tiny little extra edit/hand icon at the very top of the add resource/ activity box.  Click that and it opens the SUMMARY.  You can add gorgeous stuff with the html editor to be right at the top of your page.  I was SO happy when I found that tiny little icon.
