I made the assumption that the chat server daemon was loosley coupled from Moodle as it would appear that you can go into your Moodle installation and point the chat to another chat server. I would like to run the chat daemon but I dont want it running on the servers that have student data on them (I dont trust the security). I installed the moodle files onto another AMP server and tried to fire up the chat daemon but it wants to connect to a database, if I setup a dummy moodle instance that is inaccessible via the web but the chat daemon will fire up will this be ok?
We have had instructors complain that their chat sessions are un-reliable and I wanted to give the chat daemon a go. I couldnt find alot of documentation at all on the Moodle Chat Daemon.
Please advise.
