Essay question/ html toolbar

 When I create an essay quiz, the html toolbar (with spell check) appears only on the first question--but not on any subsequent questions. In earlier moodle versions it appeared on ALL questions so students could format, spell check EVERY answer.

How do I get the toolbar to display for every essay question in 1.9?  Thanks.

My recollection is that the toolbar has never appeared for more than the first essay question on any version of moodle (first available as an add-on in Moodle 1.5) unless you did some hacking on your site or displayed your questions 1 per page.

It appears to me that the end result was having one HTML editor per page of essay questions in order to reduce browser crashes. Perhaps you can find more information with a more thorough search of the forums, but this is what I remember since I have followed this issue myself. Perhaps someone else will contribute more information.

I have been displaying my questions one per page so that I can get the editor on all essay questions. Of course that means multiple choice questions are displayed one per page too, but for some tests, it is a reasonable solution.

Not necessarily. You can always "play" with the page-breaks so as to leave only the essay questions one per page while the other questions remain aggregated. So either you start with one question per page and delete the page breaks separating the MC questions or you start with multiple questions per page and add page breaks to separate the essay questions.
