Thanks, that helps. I will have to play with it. Will it create a group on the fly or does it have to exist ? Can I put "Fall08" ?

I did a little research on our site. It does not take 15 minutes but 5 minutes per course from at cold boot to the shutdown. We allow self enrolment, so the manual group making happens just before a quiz. Thus we use The shift key to make block, marking all the 'ungrouped' students and moving them into the new group.

There are advantages of doing it from a file. I really like the update feature. The issue for us is how easy is it to create the file and is it really less effort?
