I'm using the Topics Format for my courses.

When a student navigates through the various activities, the drop-down list in the upper right corner displays available activities under the ----Topic 1----, ----Topic 2---- headings.

I would like (as a Teacher) to be able to rename those pretty meaningless headings to headings of my own choice.

Suggestion: add an "edit Topic name/title" button (similar to the existing "edit summary" button). Then that new topic title would appear in the drop-down navigation list instead of ----Topic 1----, etc.

Further to this...

The 'Section Jump' menu (at the foot of a course when topics are 'collapsed' or 'zoomed') manages to take the first few characters (?) of each section summary/label and use this to 'label' the jump menu, so things aren't just Topic 1, Topic 2 etc.

It would be good / great / essential if:

(a) the Sections Links block could pick this up and be a bit more expansive, rather than being a list like

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 etc.

and could be formatted

  1. First line of summary
  2. Second line of summary
  3. etc.

(b) when viewing a resource, the 'Jump menu' in the header could label sections like:

Section 1: Section label
Resource 1a
Resource 1b
Section 2: Another section label
Resource 2a
Resource 2b
Resource 2c
etc.

Should this not be possible, since some function somewhere is able to pull in the first n characters from the section labels...?

One of our programmers, Jeff Grahme, built a block that does this.

Just drop it in blocks, put the lang file in en and visit admin.

Backup everything first, of course.
