Filter: WIKINDX Bibliography

WIKINDX Bibliographic Filter
Type: Filter
Requires: Moodle 1.6 or later
Status: Contributed
Maintainer(s): Geoff Rowland

The WIKINDX Bibliography Filter is based on original work by Dan Stowell linking Moodle to WIKINDX, but now makes use of the 'CMS hooks' in WIKINDX 3.7 to allow sophisticated formatting of citations and bibliographies. See the README_CMS file bundled with WIKINDX downloads for more information.

If you have an entry in your WIKINDX collection, you can refer to it in your Moodle course by typing the following in appropriate locations in the text:

wikindx:646

wikindx:500

wikindx:100

where "646", "500" and "100" are the WIKINDX IDs of the entries. The wikindx:xxx links will then be replaced in the Moodle text with an appropriately formatted short citation e.g.

(Dougiamas and Taylor 2003)

(Rice 2006)

(Cole 2005)

This also acts as a hyperlink back to the specific entry in WIKINDX.

You can also optionally type:

wikindx_full

typically at the end a block of text containing one or more short (wikindx:xxx) citations. This is then replaced with a full bibliography (ordered list of full citations) in the appropriate bibliographic format, e.g.

Cole, J., 2005. Using Moodle: Teaching with the Popular Open Source Course Management System. Sebastopol, CA: O'Reilly Media.

Dougiamas, M. and Taylor, P.C., 2003. Moodle: Using Learning Communities to Create an Open Source Course Management System. In: Proceedings of World Conference on Educational Multimedia, Hypermedia and Telecommunications (EDMEDIA), 2003 Honolulu, Hawaii. Chesapeake, VA: AACE 171–178.

Rice, W., 2006. Moodle E-Learning Course Development. Birmingham, UK: Packt Publishing.

You can see the WIKINDX Bibliography Filter in action here:

Has been tested on Moodle 1.6.x, 1.8.x and 1.9.x though may well work with other Moodle versions (feedback gratefully received). Requires WIKINDX 3.7 or later (tested on 3.7.1 through to 3.8.2)
