Dear Colleague,

We come up with a Web-Based open Mindmap service called OKmindmap. It supports collaboration, image and video embedding, SNS (facebook, twitter, and Delicious) integration, and conversion to PPT and wiki. Service available on http://okmindmap.com , more information on http://bit.ly/glxIW0 . Your comments are welcomed! This also can be integrated with Moodle as an activity or class header.

Ho Won, you have a fantastic Web 2.0 tool that combines mindmaps with multi-user collaboration! You managed to squeeze so much functionality into this MindMap tool. I love the feature where you can integrate images into it.

Wow! The mindmap on your website http://okmindmap.com/ is alive! I clicked on a node's red arrow link -> and a new browser window opened up! Cool!

However, there are two difficulties for me as I surfed to your site:

1. It is not clear how to install it to Moodle (where can I get the Moodle activity module so that I can install the module into my Moodle site)? The Youtube video:

is very good and I like the Youtube videos link and search feature. But I don't see how to integrate it with Moodle.

2. Much of your flash video tutorial (link below) is in Korean. Language barrier. http://www.modulestudy.com/Wonho/Moodle/SNS_Moodle/SNS_Moodle.html

3. I signed up for a free account. Then after I logged in, I was presented with this screen-inside-a-screen. I can't zoom to full screen? Of course I can pan around, but no zooom full screen feature makes the mini-screen hard to use.

Ho Won,

there is a problem with your PDF file in this link:
"Integrating Social Network Service into Learning Management System"
http://www.elearningasia.net/_program/pdf_pt/%5BPaper%208-4%5DWon%20Ho.pdf
I would like to read it.

2. The add members scroll window does not have any way of filtering user accounts by name. What happens if you have thousands of users in the scroll window?

3. After I logged in, I am presented with a mini-screen-within-a-screen. There is no way I can zoom to full screen when inside the mini screen.

4. More typos:
"All uold/Unfold" --should be ---> All Fold / Unfold
"Chagne Map" --should be ---> Change Map
The loading message "loding Map" should be "Loading Map"

5. Facebook plugin did not work. Twitter plugin works just fine!

6. As for linking to images, it works! BUT why not also add an UPLOAD images feature? That would be more convenient for the user!

This is not a typo. I noticed that in your system, I can embed the HTML code of a MindMap into my Moodle website! Good stuff!!!! Thanks for putting the embed button in your Okmindmap system!

That's all for now. Have a great day. Oh BTW, I have added a new resolution for Year 2011. Get this wonderful tool working with my Moodle site!

Ho Won, it would be good for the user to also be able to resize the image after inserting it (by http:// image link) into the mindmap. If I can't resize the image, this means that the mindmap's nodes' images are fixed depending on the size of the image's original size. That can lead to a cluttered mindmap where the sizes of images are inconsistent.

Hello Ho Won (is that the right way to address you? thoughtful),

This looks very exciting! approve I do hope Frankie's feedback helps you get the little things sorted out. I know the current Mindmap module in Moodle is a bit erratic so I haven't tried it. I'd love to have one that students can collaborate on.

Cheers,

Glenys

Hi,

I also tested okmindmap. For the moment, I'm very excited because it's very simple to use and there are a lot of advantage :

=>integrate mashup google, twitter, facebook, delicious, bookmark

=>integrate vidéo, image, link

=>Import and export text and xml

=>Import freemind

=>and my favorite : the embed! I try to embed into a moodle course and it's great!

=> We can collaborate in a map with a login at 40 persons but I don't try this.

...and all this easily!!

I see in the web, here, more uses like portfolio.

I hope in this service for the moment! smile

Thanks for your interest. I was looking for resources and docs for OKmindmap moodle activity, but I couldn't find it. All my developers are off for their weekend..

I will post more information about the module. But for the time being you can check how it works in Video in http://www.modulestudy.com/Wonho/Moodle/OKmoodleAct/okmindmap_moodle.html . Surely, there are two ways. Embed it as Course view or activity.

Thank you Frankie Kam.

I appreciate your valuable comment. Promise to get back to your question after I finish some work. http://www.modulestudy.com/Wonho/Moodle/OKmoodleAct/okmindmap_moodle.html shows how the activity module work. I will post the module next week.

As I promised, the OKmindmap activity module can be found in the following link.

I realized we develop a lot of activities more than OKmindmap activity, I will post it on another thread. Thanks.

Thank you for the cool and really promising moodle Activity / integration.

I have installed "OKmindmap mod" on a test server after reading the detailed Post on Moodurian: http://moodurian.blogspot.com/2011/07/from-south-korea-with-love-for-moodle.html

After a first test, I corrected the english language file and created a german lnguage file. Here in the attachment you'll find all the lang files.

This should solve some of the issues that Frankie Kam has pointed out in his post (thank you for the details):

The name of the activity is now OKMindmap and for the explanation of the mapkey/password I suggest:

$string['mapkey'] = 'Encoded part of the map\'s URL';
$string['password'] = 'Password of shared map';

Just a suggestion of course.

Ciao, Andy

Hi all

I'd love to install this - looks great. I have two quesions:

  1. Is there any way to get OKMM to support groups?
  2. Will it be upgraded for Moodle 2?

Thanks

Hi Dr. Won!

I liked you videos so much that I've decided to invest some hours transcribing your speech into softcopy English text. Here's Part I:

http://moodurian.blogspot.com/2012/06/using-mindmap-for-educational-purposes.html

In this way, perhaps more Moodlers and global Netizens can listen to, understand and appreciate your research workon OKMindMap.  Besides, maybe you can get a student to add subtitles to your video using my text transcript. There are some words that I couldn't catch, but I think I caught most of the fish,...erm...words. Enjoy!

Hello

I have just finished listening to Dr Wan giving a presentation as part of today's online moodlemoot.

Fantastic addition to moodle but also as standalone app. Is it also working in v2.0+? I intend to try it out on v1.9.9 today.

It would be very nice if it could be stored in Moodle plugins though, because hunting down the zip file was a bit of a slog smile.

cheers

Mandy

PS I also don't quite understand why this discussion is here and not in the plugins thread.

Hi Mandy

I've got my sights on a detailed blog post on OKMIndMap plugin for Moodle 2.x. I've tested it on my Moodle 2.4.1 production site and it works great. I'll release the download link once I get permission from the developer.

http://moodurian.blogspot.com/2013/03/okmindmap-plugin-for-moodle-23-and.html?spref=tw

Ooh feast your eyes on this:

In clockwise fashion, from top-left: typical child and grandchild nodes, an image node with a Youtube video just below the image,
an iframe window childnode, loaded with the live website www.cnn.com and lastly, a Youtube childnode. Just a sample of what this
plugin can do.

Hmm...I wonder how many educators would be interested in the plugin?
