From what I have read I am not sure it so automated. Course completion seems to tell what courses have been completed and progress tracking seems to advise students what course they should enroll in next but from what I have read there is nothing mentioned about the enrollment in the next course being automatic. What would be needed would be some sort of application of conditional activities between courses. This might be an idea for further development.
So for example, progress tracking would be used to indicate a sequence of courses, course completion would be used to indicate whether the student had completed a course in that sequence, and conditional activities would be used to give access to the next course in the sequence after they had successfully completed they previous course.
Perhaps something to think about for 2.1? The client I am working with now could use something like this.

I've just had a client request to lock Course 2 until Course 1 has been completed. If I can't find some solutions, we'll have to pay consultants to develop it for us.
Any progress?

My understanding is that you cannot lock course 2 until course 1 has been completed by means of the course completion/completion tracking option. The "course prerequisite" simply means that if a prerequisite course is included in the completion tracking settings, then that course must be completed too so that the second course can be checked off as "finished" It doesn't involve any locking out.
