Thanks, Mary. On moodle.org in the modules section, I find that workshop is included with 1.9+ so I should have it, but it does not appear on any of the admin menus. The Using Moodle book does not refer to workshop either. How do I get/activate it?

If you want to activate it then you need to go to to siteadmin on the front page then modules>activities>manage activities. It will be there but greyed out as it is hidden. Open the eye (hide/show) and that will activate it. HOWEVER..there is a big caveat in that it's a very complex beast if you are just starting out, and it isn't maintained any more. You might want to look at the database option instead.
