Moderator guidelines
This page provides suggestions on how to apply the Site policy and Code of conduct. Moderators and facilitators are encouraged to discuss moderation issues in the Facilitators corner.
Job adverts
Any job advert posted in a forum should be deleted immediately to prevent replies with no helpful content. Send the poster a message to inform them why their post was deleted.
Sample message:
Your forum post has been deleted because job adverts are not allowed in the forums (see our Code of conduct). You can post instead in the Moodle jobs database.
Any forum posts which include the offer of a job should be edited to remove the job advert.
Sample edited by message:
Edited by ... to remove the job advert because they are not allowed in the forums (see our Code of conduct). You can post instead in the Moodle jobs database.
Unsolicited advertising
Mentioning commercial products or services is fine if it's in the natural context of a discussion such as an answer to a question. Unsolicited adverts, such as a new discussion post, or replying to a discussion thread from over a year ago, should be deleted immediately. Optional: Send the poster a message to inform them why their post was deleted.
Sample message:
Your forum post has been deleted because unsolicited advertising is not allowed in the forums (see our Code of conduct). You can instead write about your company in your profile.
Spam
Posts which are obviously spam should be reported using the 'Report to moderator' link and then deleted.
Posting in multiple forums
Duplicate forum posts asking for help should be deleted to leave just one forum post in the most appropriate forum, or the post that has been replied to. Optional: Send the poster a message to inform them why their post was deleted.
Sample message:
Your duplicate forum posts have been deleted. You should post a question in one place only, so everyone replies there, and is not confused about which post to reply to. It also means that it is easier for other users to find the information when they search.
Note: The above applies only to duplicate posts, and not to posts about a topic which falls in two forums where one post points to another, or which differ slightly in content. Posting the same question in two different language communities is also allowed.
Posting in Moodle in English in a language other than English
Sample reply:
This forum is for discussions in English only. If you prefer to use a different language, see the list of communities.
Confusing moodle.org with school or organisation Moodle site
Sample reply:
Your forum post on moodle.org has been deleted, as it seems you posted here by mistake. Moodle.org is the place where Moodle software is created and supported.
If you are lost please ask someone at your school or organisation to help you find the correct address for your Moodle site.
If you want to delete your account, go to Data request: Delete my data and click the button 'Save changes'.
Signatures
Posts containing a signature of 2 or more lines, or containing a link, should be edited to remove the signature.
Sample 'edited by' message:
Edited by ... to remove signature because they are not allowed in the forums (see our Code of conduct).
Flaming / personal attacks
Posts containing flaming or personal attacks should be edited or deleted. The moderator may choose to post in the discussion thread reminding participants of our code of conduct.
Sample post:
Post deleted. Participants are reminded to show respect and consideration to others (see our Code of conduct).
