This really struck me: The quiz results block was particularly motivating (In fact, it was frightfully motivating), fostering competition between schools and letting students know where the leading edge of the course was.

You know, in all the years I have been Moodling, it never occurred to me that the quiz block could be a powerful motivator. Odd that I never even tried it. You can bet that I will do so this coming year.

And this, too: This helped foster significant "math talk" among the students.

When my high school German courses go really well, I do see this. To me, it has become an indicator that my students are really engaged. It does not happen as often as I would wish, though.

I'll bet that very few students dropped your modified course. And I'll bet your teachers were happier, too. Am I right?
