Thank you, Marcia.
I like your ideas!
In our neck of the woods (Marcia and I live in South Carolina), there is always someone ready to pounce on any discussion of religion, but I do not see how to keep it out of a discussion of this little story.
It's hard to neat the simplicity of the journal module, isn't it? I prefer the assignment module for this, but I think the journal module will never die.
In my German classes, my students would probably perform a role-play based upon some aspect of the story. I think they would probably collaborate in a forum on writing the role-plays (in separate groups). Do you think your teachers might go for that?

Hi, Marcia,
It's great that you have chimed in.
We use the assignment module to allow students to store files, too. We have a course just for this, in fact, and we simply enroll all of our students in the course.
It works pretty well for us.
Do you think you might do something similar at your school?

Hi, Russ,
Thank you for posting.
I agree with you that revision is a crucial part of the writing process.
You are using the workshop module for this?

Hi, Dustin,
Have you seen the Feedback module? -- http://docs.moodle.org/en/Feedback
Would that work for you if you set the Send E-Mail-Notifications setting to yes?
