You know, I have never done it, but I think that you could do this with the database module. I think you could tweak the "require viewing" and "use ratings" settings to do more or less what you want.

Maybe someone who has actually done this will chime in here.

Good question... It sounds simpler to me to use three copies of the same course. That is what I would do, I think.

Maybe someone who has experience using groups as you describe will jump in here.
