Hi Moodle devs!

I've already asked a similar question in the Forum module but without response: https://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=434938

I'd like to add an option to the Forum activity, namely:

  • Add the option to notify subscribed users immediately of a response to a comment rather than wait for the time to edit to expire.

What advice can you give (possible issues?) & where would I find the particular functions in Moodle code?

TIA!

Alternatively, is there any way to set notifications to be sent immediately, as soon as a user replies to a post/comment?

Yes, in some cases, I can see chat being useful. It's the flexibility & additional features of the Forum activity that I'd like to exploit, e.g. in-context private & personalised feedback on specific posts/comments, post & comment management options, grading & rating.

Moodle in English -> Teaching with Moodle -> Flipped learning for grammar instruction?

Hi Moodlers!

Linked to below is a blog post about whether giving flipped learning assignments to foreign/second language learners is an effective use of students' & teachers' time. Do you use Moodle for foreign/second language teaching? What are your views on flipping? Which learning activities do you think are appropriate for flipping, i.e. homework/self-study assignments to complete as preparation for the next face to face/virtual classroom lesson?

Great question! Also interested in what others here can recommend. IMHO, it's a very good idea to keep courses & student records separate because courses come & go & (should) develop with each iteration, whereas we want student records to be as permanent, unchanging, & secure as possible. Yes, most student information systems do seem to be specifically geared towards typical K-12 education contexts. Looking forward to the replies! مبتسم
