The point is Moodle reads and writes to many places. Some are critical for scalability others not. For example moodledata/filedir is not critical. All sorts of caches are. So to get the maximum from the hardware you need to distribute those places accordingly.

That was about performance. Redundancy is a different topic, a harder one IMO.

Ein solches Verhalten ist mir in all den Jahren nicht begegnet. Moodle kennt keine geplante Obsoleszenz. Zum Beispiel nach der letzten Aktualisierung am 11 Dezember 2023, dass Moodle 3.11 sich ploetzlich anders verhaelt. Einzig seither gefundene Fehler werden nicht behoben. Solange darunterliegende Software, web server, PHP, Datenbankserver unveraendert bleieben, Moodle tickt. Fuer ein Demo habe ich mal eine Reihe Moodle version seit der Version 1.6 gleichzeitig im Betrieb gehabt.

To take course content and user data with you, you need to upgrade the site  through a succession of versions like https://docs.moodle.org/27/en/Upgrading, https://docs.moodle.org/31/en/Upgrading etc.,
