Just to be clear, I've not used the tool extensively, but it appears to be intended for one-off collaborations i.e. you can save the result as a file or send it to others but I think that you can't resume editing at a later date.

You could try this Flash toy/tool from General Electric, it seems quite neat:

I believe you can co-operate on a single drawing but I'm not sure about saving and permanent storage.

Not a direct reply to your question as such, but the next project from 37signals is called Writeboard.

It's supposed to be a short term focussed wiki collaboration space i.e. to brainstorm a short piece of text over 10 or 15 minutes. The reason I bring it up here is that it will almost certainly have a degree of User Interface polish uncommon in the world of wikis, and it may prove useful for small teams of students to work on content before placing them into more permanant storage areas.

I've started a wiki page for this, I thought listing differences and similarities would help get a clear picture of what we're talking about:

A technical question which has some relevance to this discussion:

Is it possible to have private RSS feeds? Or in other words, can you authenticate users before they access them? I've used a few services that have came with warnings when you switch on RSS feeds which generally gave me the impression that if it was RSS then it was public. Can anyone confirm this?
