Hi Martin

I've tried to log in as admin, giving my usual admin password, tried using "admin" password as well, all to no avail, I keep getting the same error message...

Should I do a complete re-install ? I'd rather not...

Moodle in English -> Authentication -> User authentification not working?

I have both Moodle 1.3 & 1.4DEV installed on my local computer.

This morning AUG 19th at about 10:00 GMT I updated both Moodle 1.3 & 1.4DEV versions from CVS. But now I cannot log into Moodle at all...

For instance, for version 1.4DEV, I get the following error message:

Warning: authenticate_user_login(c:\easyphp1-7\www\moodle14/auth//lib.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in c:\easyphp1-7\www\moodle14\lib\moodlelib.php on line 786

I've checked the offending like, which reads:

(line 786) require_once("$CFG->dirroot/auth/$auth/lib.php");

I have checked and do not have any /lib.php file within my /auth/ directory... Why is that ??? Does anyone else have had that problem recently?

Thanks in advance

Thank you Maxi for providing a very useful import facility for ex WebCT users...

Unfortunately I have found your proposed module to be a little buggy. Here is the workaround I have found. I do hope you'll be able to fix the bugs and that your module will be integrated in version 1.4 soon.

Tested in Moodle 1.3 and 1.4
Current version is a little buggy, and only works (for me) using the following steps:

NOTE: if you want to ADD imported entries to an existing Glossary, go to 2

1- if you want to put all imported entries into a NEW Glossary, create a new one in Moodle (Add ... Glossary in version 1.3 or Add an activity... Glossary in version 1.4DEV)
2- Go to an existing Glossary
3- Click on the Import entries hyperlink
4- in the address bar replace import.php with import2.php...
5- ... and press RETURN key on your keyboard (or click OK button in IE navigator) DO NOT CLICK ON the Save Changes button

6- you'll get 2 error messages: "You must specify the file to import and define the criteria of the process."
"Submit your request and review the results."
7- in the File to import window enter address of .txt file to import (AGAIN!)
8- NOW click on the Save Changes button... et voila!
NOTE: some of your original imported glossary may be rejected and those rejections will be reported on screen... I have not yet found out why some of my WebCT original glossary had been rejected during import.

All the best,

Hi Martin,

After a few weeks of testing the Moodle environment I persist in thinking that it is not a good idea to have the name of the actual resource as a hyperlink in the navigation bar... If the user clicks on it, the resource bar disappears and so does the Moodle environment. In version 1.4DEV, when the teacher adds a resource, he is asked whether the new resource should be displayed:

  • in a new popup window;
  • within the current window:
    • Put resource in a frame to keep site navigation visible.

All these options are excellent, but what is the point of having chosen to have a resource "displayed in a frame to keep site navigation visible" if that unwelcome hyperlink at the end of the breadcrumbs can so easily make the navigation frame disappear?

By the way, Resources are the only Moodle element to behave that way in the breadcrumbs. Could you please reconsider your opinion and make that "feature" into a "bug" ?

Many thanks

Hi

Timothy Takemoto wrote:  The optionality of the summary is a really nice thing about 1.4. It would be nice if the other  similar non-optional summaries went the same way. E.g.
The self introduction.
The course description

Martin Dougiamas answered: I'm not budging on user and course descriptions though.

I notice that in Moodle version 1.4DEV, user Description is now optional; I wish the City/Town field was optional as well; the Country option can be set by default in Admin Config, which  is a good thing.
Now that the User Description has become optional, it would be logical to move it under the The following items are optional: heading, wouldn't it?

PS Should I file a bug/feature request for it?
