Hi Michelle,
Thank you for your answer and the screenshot. I have tried your Cloze question (using latest Moodle 1.9.11) and the feedback messages are correctly displayed as well in Firefox as in MSIE 8.
Have you tried with the Chrome browser? on a MacIntosh? (Safari, etc.) with different versions of MSIE (I hope none of your students is using an MSIE version older than 8, those versions were very bad indeed).

1.- Which version of moodle are you using?
2.- It would help if you attached to your reply the complete question text of one of your Cloze questions which displays the problem, so we can examine it and suggest a fix.
