Hello Sam

Since you have been working on the default wiki of moodle 1.6.1 i have a potentially problematic situation so i wish to ask.

Situation: i have created a single wiki which anyone can edit. I have a start page on which i try to list the available pages  alphabetically.
All my pages are related to information on psychological problems and contain only text. Images i insert as a link to the image which is usually located on some other server.

The problem i am noticing:  Slowly, as i have been filling data in the wiki, i have noticed that the wiki page is progressively becoming slower to load. Other pages load with normal speed but wiki is slower and is slowing down progressively.

What I suspect: since it is a single wiki, it is swelling up and when asked to load the starting page, the system is probably loading the whole wiki with links and this makes it go slow.

My question: Is this feeling of slowness of wiki incidental or real. is it a known behaviour. and further, if it's true, how should i check it at this stage. you are welcome to check this wiki at http://www.as16.com/moodle/course/view.php?id=4
you can login as guest or even enroll if you wish since this section is free access. I'd be obliged if you do take a look

please see the screen shot of my settings below
regards

I wonder if you can do it in quiz but you can certainly do it in lessons.

Downside: lessons show only one question per page and have an intervening page also. A trick has to be done to make it secure.
upside:  you can do a lot of conditional activities
Hey Vernon

I had read somewhere about this excel giftmaker and now your version was also seen and studied by me.
Now i think i am missing something seriously here. So don't take this as criticism but as the banter of a man who doesn't know better.

  1. Why do you need to create a gift format maker in vb when a simple spreadsheet like the one attached by me, does everything. Simply first three lines are copied and pasted for as many questions as you require without the complication of macros etc. They will also generate a line between two questions
  2. Simply 'save as' a tab delimited text file with .txt extension (see this file in the post below)
  3. upload the file as a gift file.
  4. See preview below as the third post
  5. Now the only problem i see here is:
    • when imported from gift format, the default setting of 'shuffle answers' is set to NO and we cant change it in moodle 1.6.x as yet
    • Therefore, in everycase, the same answer would be uploaded as correct (answer 1 in my file's case)
    • The important thing is that the excel gift maker should be able to shuffle the answers otherwise you will have to set shuffle answers to yes at individual question level. Does your gift maker do that? (inspite of setting macro security to low, your file did not run on my comp so i was not able to test this)
In view of the above, please tell me why do we need a specific gift maker when i have shown you how to do it simply in excel itself.(actually i dont even know the difference between gift format and text format. for me, they are a text file which can be prepared offline and uploaded at convenience)
