Joseph has just elucidated the single line which i had written in my post

...and ANYTHING other than your right answer will be treated as option 4 due to the wildcard and given that feedback and zero marks.

Thanks to this conversation i have also edited the moodle document regarding short answers a bit. you can read this here to get a better grip on what Joseph and I have been trying to say.

(Wildcard was basically devised to cater for some flexibility in short answers and yet have them gradable. But if you have a set of fixed possible answers (like in a mathematical question), then using a wildcard to give feedback for a wrong answer is exactly what is called 'improvisation' in my village smiler  )
Hi Tim

What I have done is, I have edited the moodle document page for short answers.
you may see it here http://docs.moodle.org/en/Short-Answer_question_type

If you find it worthwhile, do include it in the help file for next release
Hello Timothy

I had never seen your version nor was my intention to do a one-up on you.

I just wanted to show, that anyone, even mildly proficient with a spreadsheet can do this directly without needing to run macros because they are a potential problem(i do it straightaway in notepad. I am comfortable there too)
This does not take away anything from your software and yes, your hard work is obvious there(i just downloaded and saw your version)

I have found the method to shuffle questions in the simple spreadsheet also so basically i'd personally stick to my own version but yes, your version is definitely good for those who keep forgetting to put a } at the end or a ~ instead of = smiler

Incidentally i have saved your version, too.....just in case blinker
Let me put it this way Debra
I don't think this is a calculated question at all.
I think this is a numerical question.
Since there is a vast difference between the two, I think what you can do is show us the screenshot of the 'edit question' view and then may be we can rack our brains.
also check out the quiz settings.
