I have found this quite a strange little exchange. I would have thought that to maximise your chance of an answer it would help to:
  • state clearly and simply what you want to know
  • be polite and avoid profanities in an international forum
  • quietly ignore any suggestions you find unhelpful
It's quite a testament to the helpfulness and civility of the Moodle community that you got any answers IMHO.

It's obviously a while since you made a call from a UK call box - it's now 40p minimum. wink

Let's not be too gloomy about young people and communications technology. The young adults that I work with generally have good phone etiquette unlike some senior former colleagues I could mention.  Also, most young people use these technologies creatively in a social way.  Obviously teachers in school may need to set boundaries but there are aslo educational and social benefits as Don has mentioned.

A feature of many Web 2.0 applications and services is that they transcend boundaries home/work, private/public bringing benefits and problems. If (student) users generate content, what controil do they have over that? e.g. a student starts blogging in Moodle but wants to take their blog into the public (maybe ona different platform) . Should this be supported by standards?
Anyway we should be asking student users about this an other aspects. Maybe by taking a look at what they say, see this Facebook group with a familiar member.
