it seems to me that full HTML5 support should be a requirement for us in any new library. There is a nice tutorial here if anybody wants to catch up: http://www.html5rocks.com/en/tutorials/forms/constraintvalidation/

I love it!  heart  Could you please also post a screenshot with all of these at the same time (as a worst-case scenario)?

  1. some conditional activities defined and enabled to show their settings on the course page
  2. some labels between the activities
  3. some of the activities shifted right
  4. blocks on both sides, on a screen that is 1024 pixels wide.

Note that the menu does currently magically appears on hover for desktops (no extra click), but we can't rely on hover ONLY because of touch screens, and touch screens are fast becoming the way most people will use Moodle.  The old-style icons are also really hard to hit on a touch screen (and for many people on a desktop too!).

That's the main reason we are pursuing the big settings icon -> named menu approach.

This refactoring is not going to change any of the existing formats much in 2.4.  It's focussed on making things better for course format developers out there so that they can create the many course formats that people are requesting.
