Yes, HTML is not allowed in normal text fields.

However, you can put HTML in the textarea fields, so try switching to those.

Basically you just need to replace all the Moodle scripts with the new versions, then visit http://yoursite/admin and everything else will be upgraded smoothly. You shouldn't lose anything.

Just in case something goes wrong, you should always make a backup of the site first, or test it on a copy of the site.

Just checking I understand, are you really saying you want us to write a new browser tool to check everybody's browser when they browse these forums and give them popup tips to tell them to install new fonts etc?

Multiple scales would require significant reworking of Moodle code, how about we just try to get one right first ..
