HO HO, where does Moodle GO??

While making the move to 1.9, I see in the daily CVS 2.0 Moodle, that the support for these Modules disappeared form the core:

  1. Journal
  2. Lams
  3. Exercise (it was back for a moment)
  4. Workshop

While we welcome the return of FEEDBACK, and we regret the loss of Journal at last, I wonder:

  • Is this temporary or a final strategic choice ?
  • are there no supported subsitutes? (like Peerlight for Workshop?)
  • and how secure is Wiki (Is the advice to use nWiki or OUwiki in 1.9 instead of the core WIKI?)

I mourn loss of Workshop. There is no substitute for it. It is/was the best thing in Moodle. I still do not understand how something like this could happen.

I must have not gotten that faculty notice.  I get a lot, but I didn't know that workshop was going to disappear.  We really need to have something else to go to if it is no longer available.  This was in important item for our middle school students.  Talk about students taking possession for all the ongoing work!  It was tremendous.

I have read every Workshop-related forum post in the last two years, yet I do still not have a clear picture as to why Workshop is going away, or needs replacing. I have only fragments of a picture. For example: there is no maintainer. Hmm. There is no maintainer for SCORM, so perhaps it will also disappear. If such things are possible, then "core" means nothing, and everything in Moodle should be viewed as third-party.
