Courses and course formats

Nobody is answering your post because of the key word "group", I think there is a forum on this topic. But first, please look at MoodleDocs and do a search on Groups. The same answer to all your questions: Yes and yes.

Moodle does not have a site wide group function. In a course, you can have different groups, assign people to one or more groups, change group membership, prevent one group from seeing another group in an activity or in a course, or allow them to see and more. So you could have a "North", a "South, an "East" and "West" groups in a course. Reports and grades can be filtered by groups.
