Feedback vs Questionnaire - pros and cons

Feedback vs Questionnaire - pros and cons

We are in the process of moving our online program from WebCT to Moodle.

We have a standard 24-question evaluation with both multiple choice and fill in blanks that we need all students to complete at the end of every course. (This is an institutional requirement.)

Any opinions on whether the Questionnaire or the Feedback module best meets this need? Are there any pros and cons for one over the other for this type of use?

Or any suggestions on other options?

Thanks in advance for the input!

Susan

Susan - I prefer feedback and would say that in general it is easier/more intuitive to setup a feedback (i.e. "more Moodle like"). Questionnaire impressed me as well as being a powerful tool and it was first on the scene so I installed both on my production server. When it came time to choose which to use for doing course evaluations I opted to go with feedback. Another factor to consider is that feedback is being considered for inclusion in Moodle core so long term it MAY mean less maintenance. That being said, both a good tools for the job. You may want to download and experiment with both but if I had to choose I think I would go with feedback. Peace - Anthony

Susan,

Not sure what a "fill in blanks" question might look like. I suppose it would simply be an "open text" question type? If you want to try out your 24-question survey in the Questionnaire module without having to install it on your moodle server you are welcome to try it out on my moodle test site. Log in as teacher1, password teacher1 (or teacher2, password teacher2) and go to the Questionnaire module demo course. Create a questionnaire, enter your 24 questions. Then log out and log in again as student1, password student1 (or student2 password student2) and enter responses. Or you can send me privately your 24-question survey and I can enter the questions for you.

Joseph

PS.- I totally agree with Antony's reply. Basically, Questionnaire is more powerful (and less user-friendly) than Feedback. It all depends what you want to do with it.

Joseph (and Anthony),

Thanks for the input. I'm experimenting with Questionnaire (no kidding it is not particularly user friendly) and will try out Feedback next. Good to know what's coming down the pipeline re: future development.

As usual Anthony has summed things up nicely.

We used to use Questionnaire but have since moved to Feedback for all the reasons mentioned above. Yes, Questionnaire can do more and is certainly more powerful, teachers find Feedback alot easier to use, and to be honest, it does achieve what 95% of my teachers want to do.

So my full vote for Feedback.
