You can create an HTML block containing text hyperlinked to the resource URL.
For example, if you want to show a link to a specific quiz, type "Quiz" in the HTML editor and then insert a hyperlink like http://yoursite/mod/quiz/view.php?id=370. You get this URL by placing your mouse over the selected activity/resource in the center column, left clicking, and selecting "Copy Link Location" from the context menu.

Hi Bill, you might want to take a look at our Flexpage course format, it enables you to create left menus and center content areas.
