I would like to see a feature, in the administration, to duplicate a current course. I teach three sessions of the same class, and this will save me hours of typing and getting ready.
Any information will be helpful.
Thanks,
Loren Winfrey
This is difficult to do now, but will be possible using the upcoming course backup feature.

Basically you would design one course, make a backup, then restore that backup into the other two courses (selectively choosing which parts you wanted ... for example, you might choose not to duplicate the enrolments).

Do you have a timeline for the backup addition?
My own development is on a bit of a hiatus right now (except for very pressing or very easy things) while I finish a PhD thesis.
I'm intending to be back on 100% development by June/July. At that time I'll be tackling features quite rapidly according to priority. There'll be a couple more point releases (1.0.9, 1.1) then a major new release late in the year called 2.0.
Course backup/restore is quite high in my list of priorities (top five, I'd say) and I've been throwing around some design ideas already with Petri Asikainen. It's a reasonably complex problem.
My feeling is that this might be available by August, but I can't promise anything.

THIS FEATURE WOULD BE OF UTMOST IMPORTANCE TO US!!
Might it be possible to use a Group feature. I am new to moodle but have been designing online courses for some time. I use a grouping feature or Class feature in some of the systems that I use. This way you can keep one course format, and group students into various classes where you can monitor their progress.
Certainly challenges in either way you organize it, but I am wondering if moodle has a grouping feature already.
Exactly - I've actually mentioned groups in bug 84.
They're not yet here, but will be relatively soon: http://moodle.org/bugs/bug.php?op=show&bugid=20
