Thank you so much everyone for the quick responses on this. I'm glad you've all shared your experiences with the linked files. I was just starting to do this with our site and it hasn't affected us because all of our students enroll in all of the courses (it's a business environment where the Moodle is used as a sharing tool)
I'll definitely keep all of this in mind as I continue building.
