Searching for Gallery or Photo Album...

I'm in desperate need of a Photo Album/Gallery module... I've been tweaking a Glossary into one but it just isn't really what the folks on my site are asking for.

Is one in the works, or has anyone else figured out ways to integrate one into Moodle? I'm wondering if I'm just missing something obvious. དགའ་འཛུམ་

If it were just me I would just make an HTML page to host these photos, but a teacher on my site really wants to do this page and doesn't know HTML, so I need something that makes it possible for her to create this page without knowing code. She is using some WYSIWYG code editor now that is creating some of the most horrible code I've ever seen, then putting the page up on a pop-up ridden free host. I want her to move the resource into Moodle and avoid these problems, but there is no automated way to do it other than using my hacked Glossary...

I saw that Martin had written a photo album script, and I could install that, but it's not integrated into Moodle yet, is it?

Thanks in advance for any ideas on this topic!

Hi Wendi,
I use ThumbHTML . It read a complete directory of photos, create many html pages with thumbs photos linked to the originals full size.

If you put a link on the first page of the photos as a ressource then all the photos will be accessibles as a single big ressource.

I hope it may help,

Bernard

Thanks for the answers so far... Gallery looks like the best option at first glance, but I will investigate further.

I wish there was something built in to Moodle, though! དགའ་འཛུམ་ Then again, it does so much already, I am constantly impressed.

I've been using Gallery and am very pleased with it. ThumbHTML looks good too. Support for Gallery was excellent when I had some issues.

Well, I've got it up and running. From skimming their discussion groups it appears as if it's embeddable in other systems such as pHpBB2. Has anyone tried to embed it in Moodle? Right now we leave the friendly confines of Moodle to look at the gallery albums. དགའ་འཛུམ་ This is OK for now but could be better. དགའ་འཛུམ་

It was easy to set up Gallery. Nice program so far.

I have recently been using Gallery in Moodle using a "Web page" resource.  The album loads in the bottom frame.  The only problem is that my users have to register/login separately.  Gallery doesn't use a database but flat-files for its user management, and I don't have the technical knowledge to integrate the login for both.

Would this be difficult to do, any comments?

Tim.

Yes, gallery doesn't  use database in storing username and password but the gallery simply rock with the remote upload and other stuff...

Anybody seen Gallery 2? It looks very interesting, and I got the impression that it was moving to a much more modular and database driven model. I guess that has potential for easier integration with Moodle. I should add it to my endless list of things to look at one day དགའ་འཛུམ་

I concur - Gallery is a great tool.  Easy to set up (I love the bit where it advises you that "there are some errors detected, but it'll probably be OK to carry on - Life's too short to worry!").

I also find the Gallery Remote tool indispensible for uploading pix - it makes things so much easier.  Apart from providing hyperlinks to it though, I wouldn't have a clue as to how it could be integrated with Moodle.

Hey, but what about Martin's Open source gallery, Photoframe?
Perhaps it might integrate well with Moodle, or perhaps Marting might feel more inclined to integrate it?

I am afraid I use gallery though myself

I am onsiderably fatter than in my "using moodle" photograph.

Here's a very simple gallery for you Ms. Wendi Dunlap the link below...

http://www.zinkwazi.com/pages.php?page_name=scripts

no problem in setting up just inlude the said file in your images directory then access the url it directly calling the file not the images... for more information help file is included. a simply solution for the moment until moodle will have a gallery of its own.

Coppermine worth a look? Do not know how easy it would be to integrate.

Installation was straightforward - and runs with IIS. Not sure Gallery does.
