Do you have any backups of the moodle data folder from that time? Or an alternative folder that your system backs up to? (you can have moodle backup within the course directory or elsewhere, depending on what you set up as admin.) If you could figure out what your course ID number was and you have the old files stored somewhere, you could get the archive and restore it.
We do snapshots at the end of each semester and store them offline, as well as a variety of regular backups at shorter intervals. If you can get some information about the backup system you guys are using, maybe you would be able to find your archives (or even create a new moodle codebase somewhere and hook it up to a backup of your old database from that time, if you could find the backup).
