Hi, we are a group of developers interest in work with moodle, we just have finished a 'stable' version of a new block named PCard. This block let the teacher add relevant information about the course an show it in a block into the course page.

This is the first version and we have a lot of ideas about it, but we want your opinions before continue working.

Now i have a little question: i added this block in the Modules and Plugins database (http://moodle.org/mod/data/view.php?d=13&rid=779) but, only the registered users have access to it, why? how can i let all users (guest) to see the description page of the block?

Thanks, we will wait your opinions...

HI,

Your block sounds very interesting, Manuel. I think it will be visible in the modules and plugins database after it has been approved. Takes a few hours, sometimes.

Regards,
Art

A good idea for a block...

but it is not working for me. It does not create the pcard record, hence I always get a 'Doesn't exists a PCard for this course'.

Also, if I manually insert the record, while I can edit the texts, on updating I get a 'no inputfile' error.

Any ideas?

Hello Cody thanks for try PCard. I am trying to recreate the situation that you describe but i am not able to do it in my local version, you have to give me a little more information about your installation.
  • What version of moodle are you using now?
  • What database engine are you using?
Now the 'Doesn't exists a PCard for this course' error appears when there is not a registry with the course id in the course field in th pcard table. When you activate the block in any course, it automatically check if this registry exists and if not it create this registry and let the table ready for updates in the Edit form. I have not idea about the 'no inputfile' error.

thanks again... i will wait your answer to try identificate and correct this problem.

Here i paste the installation instructions just to you check that all the steps are correctly in your process:

1. Unzip the PCard.zip file.

2. Copy the folder 'pcard' into your local
installation 'blocks' folder.

3. Visit the admin page and your block should be
noticed and registered as a new entry in the
table "blocks".

4. Configure your language including lang/pcard.php
and lang/help/pcard into your local installation
language folder.

Now i will keep trying to recreate your situation to give you a more specifc answer.

thanks for the feedback...

sad I don't know how to do step 4 of the installation instructions. I need english and I'm running 1.7. Will you show me?

I will have to say, though, that this is the very first module/plugin that I have downloaded successfully!big grin It is actually working on my Moodle (so far.)

Only thing is that I don't have a name for it showing in my Blocks list. I just have this: name. This is also the way all the other titles look objectives methodology, etc. Can these be corrected somehow?

Sorry to report I'm having the same problem. I've uploaded all folders according to your directions above including putting language files in the root language folder.

The block is recognized by moodle and is functioning fine. But apparently the language files are not being recognized. Any suggestions?

I'm running Moodle 1.7 on MySQL.

Re: Pedagogical Card... new block

by Manuel García -

Looking good, could be very useful.

Can't wait to next version so that we can change some of the field names.

Thanks for try PCard Mark.

That's the idea we are working on the next version to let the teachers to define all the fields that they want, setting the filed name and the order of them. This version is like an approach to the comunity to evaluate your feedback.

Thanks again...

Hi,

Could you also include a hide feature so that you do not have to show all the fields in the block for every course.

Re: Pedagogical Card... new block

by David Hernández -
Hi Manuel,

I think this module is very useful for students (Ex. They know what to "exactly" expect from the course), but also for teachers (Ex. They have a very useful "online map" for planning the day to day e-Activities).

Although this is a great plus of your module, I think more people can be benefited with PCard.

In this sense, here is a suggestion that may be considered for future versions:

If a course allows "Guests", and they press the PCard links, they are redirected
to a page with this message:

"Must be an administrator, teacher or student"

Would it be possible for a guest to read the "What, Why and How" of the course?

I think this would be a good idea for:
  • Students that are searching for optional courses that may complement their official curricula.
  • Universities or medium level schools that are trying to convince people to study with them, through their Web pages.
  • Parents that are searching for an option for their children and would like to know "everything" about the learning process of an institution.
  • Organizations with training-oriented courses (instead of academical oriented programs).
  • Businesses or other organizations with a variety of courses that are not necessarily related.
Again, thank you very much for your great effort.

Best regards,
David Hernandez
