BackUp on Hosted System

BackUp on Hosted System

We on a hosted system and having upgraded to Moodle 1.7 we are having backup problems.

Throug the web sit Admin we reset the 'course/backup' setting to point to common backup folder so that the course backups were in one place. We had planned to then backup all at once. Although we had set the permissions OK (confirmed by our host operators) nothing happened and E-mail reports stopped

Accessing through the site again we have restored the 'courses/backup' to the default setting i.e backing up to the individual courses folder BUT this has not restored the in course folder backups nor E-Mail reporting!!

We have been in touch with our host support as it appears to me either 'cron' is not running or the cron.php file is corrupt. Support however report that cron is working and there is a daily cron setting

What is also happening (strangely) is that at the 'Site Admin/Server/Site files' we are getting updates to 6/7 what are 'old' courses on a daily basis. we currently have a total of 40 courses some of which are not valid for backups.

Could this 'old' course backups and the other non backups mean that the 1.7 upgrade is not correct.

Any thoughts or answers ?

TIA John
