Hi everyone:
Finally the Webquest Module for moodle has been created. This is just the beginning. For now it is only compatible with Moodle 1.6 but the perspectives are to take it along with each new version of moodle. We are somewhat delayed because Moodle 1.8 is coming out and yet webquest is not compatible with the roles that Moodle 1.7 brought. I hope the beginning of Webquest Module for moodle would be useful for every moodler in the community. Any errors encountered, comments, suggestions, request of new features, etc. will be greatly appreciated.guiño
I would like to thank those who assisted me in the development of this version: Herica Katherine Sierra Moreno, Eloy Lafuente, Jordi Adell.......just to name somepensativo, because they are many. However, the real help will come from each person that begins to use it, detecting errors, and making useful suggestions in order to obtain a better quality in each version and in each editing.

Note: AFAIK the current 1.6 version will work pretty well under 1.7, although it isn't using the roles / xmldb / accessibility changes present in the rest of Moodle. Sure we get the "native" versions soon.

5.-INSTALL

To install this module in your Moodle's TEST server, follow this steps:
- Copy the entire "webquest" directory to your "moodle_dir/mod/" dir.
- Copy the CONTENTS of lang/en and lang/en_utf8 directory in this module to your "moodle_dir/lang/" dir.
Copy all other language directories to
moodledata/lang.
Be careful with this step and avoid deleting the entire lang dir. Copy
only contents !!

in unix check permission in:
yourmoodle/mod/webquest/
yourmoodledata/lang/es_utf8/
yourmoodle/lang/en_utf8/
yourmoodle/lang/en/
yourmoodledata/lang/es/

you are right. There are no help files in the lang folder. But there are placeholder for several help files in the code

this bug was found yesterday when we were chating. In your moodle
i'm a teacher not an admin so when i selected Evaluation page WQ mod return an evaluation page for students and that's wrong...
So thanks to you i got that bug.
Replacing locallib.php the problem is fixed.

Okay, I am using it and the kids are having zero problems. One look and they knew what to do. It took a few minutes to make the teams and we were off to the races.

One question: Is there some way that the students can assign themselves to teams? I did not find one.

Looks great so far. Products are due Tuesday, so I will know more then.

Soon WQ will have roles..

i think if student have teacher roles in a course WQ will inherate that roles and students would be able to create an WQ activity and edit it as they want.

but for now i'm just guessing

Very good work you did on the WQ module, we were waiting for this, just in time!

We're using the WQ module with Moodle 1.7.1 - works fine so far.

Our WQ's are on patient cases for neuroscience nurses, we're producing them for a European project on that topic. So we have to reach many teachers in the EU countries and would therefore also like to deliver the teacher tips going with the webquest.

So, just a little feature request: is it possible to add a "teacher tips" facility to the module? This could be visible to teachers and not visible to students.

OK Dariem, so let me explain:

The teacher tips (or teacher pages) are extremely valuable when the WQ is used by other teachers than the one(s) who wrote the original. So it is in the perspective of reusability and dissemination. Teacher tips are widely used in several WQ's you can find on the web.

Teacher tips could include all sorts of tips for teachers about a specific WQ. To mention a few possibilities:

  • explanations about what a teacher can do to support learning processes in each of the WQ steps - intro, learning tasks, the learning process, an expert solution, teacher resources, assessment/evaluation tips (this is mainly what others do)
  • info on how to approach the learners
  • pedagogical tips on how to use and embed the WQ in a curriculum or series of lessons
  • tips on assessment and grading
  • tips on providing feedback during the time students are doing the WQ
  • how to use the WQ for individual use by a student, or for use with collaborative learning (teams!)
  • how to combine the WQ module in combination with other Moodle modules like the Forum, Quizzes
  • how to use the WQ in combination with a digital portfolio and Personal Development Plan (e.g. for competence based learning)

Technically, the "teacher tip" feature could be a simple title-field plus WYSIWYG editor. Just add a menu item "teacher tips" or "teacher page" in the "pages" menu, and make sure it is only visible for teachers. I think the rest of the creativity to put contentin there, you can leave to the teachers themselves glimlach. Possibly a default text could appear with the headings of the WQ pages as a grid to fill out.

If you really want to make this super, a teacher page for each of the steps in a WQ could be an even better feature, but the above one will be enough in most cases...I think. (see: http://questgarden.com/45/17/3/061214164121/)

 I succeed in insert into WebQuest activity module in moodle1.6 and  1.7.It works well.But when I backup my course which include WebQuest activity module,I find backup list doesn't contain  webquestactivity modules.  why ?

i ionstalled the WebQuest modul and managed to build my first webquest. but i don´t know how to do the task area. It seems i can edit the tasks but i fond no link to execute this tasks as student. there is no link in the table of my 3 tasks.

i use 1.7.2

Any Idea?

I am using the webquest module which has a lot problems. for example:

it can't backup.when I backup my course which include WebQuest activity module,I find backup list doesn't contain  webquest activity modules.

it can't realize  group  evaluation.
.....

I wonder that your using the webquest module is ok.

so I wish you can email your using webquest module.

Hi,

I just started working with the module with my pupils. Since their english is just as good as my inuit riseta I started with a translation in dutch.
The module seems to work well in moodle 1.8, but backing up would be great.
A possibilty to zip a webquest as in Wiki's would also be good.
It also would be great to be able to appoint a certain member of a group as teamleader. Our system appoints the first one on the list as teamleader.

HI everyone:
i don't know if this post will be pleasing to all of you.
Since April 2007 I have been busy with personal problems and with problems in my PC where I have programmed the WQ module therefore i couldn't finish what i began with WQ module.
Now I find myself in these moments to a month to defend my final thesis to finish off 5 years of univesity studies, in others words june 29 i will be an Information-technology engineer gran riseta.
Between July and august i will be in holidays but no taking a rest i will use that time to solve all my personal problems. And if everything goes good i will back to work in September 2007 so wish me luck please.
there is many things to do with WQ module:
Backup/restore .... is almost done but don't finished yet.
Roles and capabilities.... indeciso
Use formslib
Help files...... Art, Ralf help me please.. indeciso
and some details to solve.

So this things will be stuck until September triste but i will be back riseta.
