This double message (exactly the same) let me think to an idea that would be good to add to Moodle forums :
before inserting a new message, verifying that there isn't allready another one with the same informations (forum, content, author...)

Try this: set up a test moodle, then look in the /mod/ folder at readme.txt. It has some starting guidelines for creating new modules, including reading these pages:
