Crossword clues

I've just created a Hotpot crossword and uploaded it to moodle. When the numbers (i.e one down, two across etc.) are clicked the corresponding clues do not appear. Anyone know what might be happening? Everything seems to be edited and uploaded properly...or maybe not!

Hi Frank,

How exactly did you upload your Hotpot crossword to Moodle? Did you go through Add an activity / Hot Potatoes Quiz or did you just upload your crossword HTML file to the course Files folder and then go through Add a Resource / Link to a file or website and point to your crossword HTML file directly?

If you did the latter (not recommended) then this thread might help.

Joseph

PS.- Which Moodle version are you using?

Frank, if you added the JQuiz quiz using "Add an activity / Hot Potatoes Quiz" and you continue to have problems, please upload the quiz to my server, so we can look at it together:

Moodle 1.5

Moodle 1.6

cheers

Hi Joseph and Gordon,

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Firstly in answer to Joseph's questions I'm using moodle 1.6 and I uploaded the hot potatoes crossword using the add an activity/hot potatoes option.

Secondly, Gordon, I uploaded the crossword to your server and to my amazement the it worked perfectly surprise. The long lost clues appeared again out of nowhere (see Frank's crossword in Topic 1). On the basis of this success I then deleted the crossword in question on my site and uploaded it again and guess what...the clues had vanished. Not a sign of them. I'm utterly confused over this as I have successfully created crosswords in the past using the exact same method as I did in this instance. I even created a test crossword a few minutes ago and uploaded it and it worked fine. I'm now about to begin the troublesome crossword from scratch, upload it again and hope for the best. A annoying waste of time but necessary I guess.

Frank, I'm pleased to hear that the quiz works on my site. It is also good to know that you got a different JCross to work on your site.

There were some problems with earlier versions of the HotPot module and PHP 5, which caused JCross and JMatch not to work. However, that was a while back now and the symptoms were that the quiz did not show at all, which seems to be different from what you reported.

If you want to be sure you have the latest version of the HotPot module for Moodle 1.6, you can download it from here:

If you continue to have problems with the quiz on your site, please send me the URL to I can see it for myself: gordon at-sign kanazawa hyphen gu dot ac dot jp

all the best
