Integrating "Vyew" into Moodle

Integrating "Vyew" into Moodle

I've been searching for an add-on synchronous class for Moodle for a while now, open source or other. But there doesn't seem to be anything set up yet.

And then I came across these 3 posts...
http://moodle.org/mod/forum/search.php?search=Vyew&id=55

And I checked out Vyew and what a wonderful tool 满意 It holds its own with the "big boys" in the synchronous conferencing tools world!

I'm wondering if anyone has integrated this to Moodle so far. I'm trying to wrap my head around the concept of where to start. I'm imagining I'll have to look into getting a bridge built from Moodle to Vyew if I want to be able to have the two talking to one another... Because in essence, I want there to be but one point of entry for learners and instructors.

Any ideas or experiences that anyone is willing to share would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Kristina

Hi Kristina:

I agree that Vyew has great promise, especially for integration into Moodle. I began using Vyew last week and am actively exploring options for integration and will happily share them as they come to light.

What did you have in mind in terms of a bridge?

Regards,

Jim

Here's how we integrated it 微笑

When a teacher logs into view and starts a meeting, that's the only time students can use Vyew. Every meeting gets a unique URL , we simply create a "resource" in moodle (link to a file or website) and point it to the URL. We allow the moodle frame to remain, so users dont have to go out of the site. Students login as guest, creating any screen name they like. When the teacher finishes the meeting, the resource link is deleted.

I don't see how any other bridge could be used ! It's a great tool...i hope they keep it free, and add audio and video to it !

Why not try using Yugma? It let's you have up to 10 people in a session, works on both Mac and Windows, and is free forever. Check them out at https://www.yugma.com . The thing that could really solve your problem is their "Widget Button" which allows you to embed the Yugma function into any website (using a small snippet of html code, just like you would with a Skype-me button). That link is https://www.yugma.com/yugma_buttons/index.php . Just stick the code anywhere you want and it will allow people to connect to you web sessions instantly and securely.
Hope that helps.

WiZiQ's free virtual classroom module for Moodle

Jagdeep Singh Pannu -
Kristina, we just tested a module for WiZiQ's free virtual classroom, which would integrate into Moodle to be activated as a "block" and to launch an activity. It is scheduled for release around mid Jan. I will inform everyone when it is live. Here is more information on our blog.

WiZiQ is great in its compatibility with Moodle. However, it appears that there can only be 2 way video/audio. This is great for one-to-one sessions, but not for classes. I may be wrong, but this is what the website seemed to indicate.

We are exploring synchronous options for multiple participant classrooms to be used in conjunction with Moodle and so far the least inexpensive and best working option has been Vyew.

Hi Sarah,

Attendees in a session do not have audio/video control by default. The presenter/teacher has administrative rights in the live session and can selectively transfer control; see video: Transferring control to attendees. You can also watch demo sessions in the public sessions area of WiZiQ to see how the virtual classroom is being used.

Thanks,
Jagdeep Singh Pannu

I am using MOODLE 1.8.2+. After installation when I tried to use it, I got this error: Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING, expecting T_OLD_FUNCTION or T_FUNCTION or T_VAR or '}' in /home/moodle3/public_html/moodle/mod/wiziq/auto.php on line 16

Any advice?

Hi Tan,

Could you also provide us specifics of your installations with versions like PHP, Apache, MySQL and operating system etc. You could also check if you downloaded and installed the required modules for your version of Moodle.

If you want us to have a look at your installation, you can simply send us the login details at support@wiziq.com.

Hi Tan,

We need the ftp account of your Moodle directory, where we can upload the WiZiQ activity and block modules; also provide us admin access to Moodle. Please mail only to support@wiziq.com and we will have a look.

Thanks,
Jagdeep Singh Pannu
