Bill, unless I'm mistaken 2 classes have been applied to that td element: course and name, not one 'course name' class.

So, depending on your needs you could apply styles to either one. You'll have to be careful of precedence of course. If I remember correctly the course styles would be applied, then the name styles would be applied, overwriting conflicts (if any).

There are many places in moodle where php dynamically adds classes to css elements and this may be one of those.
