I was made aware of moodle on a recent staff development course. Can I download moodle to run off my own pc.

do you mean to say you want to run moodle where your PC acts as a server? and other people login using a network(internet or intranet).
If that is your question, then the answer is theoretically yes, but practically, it's a big no no.

Dr Bhatia asks a good question. It depends on what you want but it may be worth considering using Moodle from a USB stick, but this has not been easy for some people see here.
