Central Tracking Reports

Hello,

I really don't know if I should be posting this idea and question in this forum, but here I go, as this could lead us to write some code.

In the university where I work we have a complete Virtual University where, in our model, we have students, teachers, and coordinators. Coordinators can be thought as administrators for a particular career. They are constantly seeing students who have not logged in or with poor participation and performance.

Coordinators, today on 1.6 are enrolled as hidden teachers. However, they told me today how hard is to them to check students performace.

They told me that it would be great to have a special "tab" while you are displaying students profile with a "complete report" where, users logged in as "Coordinators" (with 1.7 profiles this could be done).  An option to display for a particular student a total summary of student's activities and performance.  This way, coordinators, can see in one screen grades, activities for all courses the student is enrolled in, with a very Excel-based interface.

At the same time, we suggested me to have some alerts by e-mail or with some report notifying teachers / coordinators of students who have not logged in, as a way to automate reports and tracking from a more general and centralized.

Probably today's report - those available for admin user - could include students grades.

I guess they are suggesting me options for Moodle to improve the management of online courses.

Is there any development or module to do something like this?. any block or something?

Have you seen the reports under the user profile in 1.7? There is a new "grades" tab (in addition to the reports we had before) and access is governed by capabilities so you can make a Coordinator role to do exactly as you suggest.
