Moodle 2.0 and integration of Open University developments

Moodle 2.0 and integration of Open University developments

Not sure where in the Moodle forums to ask this question but I'm trying to find out whether there is a roadmap for Moodle development which means that Moodle 2.0 will have the Open University-funded developments included in it ? Or are some of these in Moodle 1.7 ? According to an 8 November 2005 press release it was stated that the OU development would be "fully operational by Feb 2007".

All this is part of my institution's decision-making about whether to upgrade to 1.6 or wait for 1.7 or whether the next 'leap' (to 2.0 ? - assisted by OU's development funding) would be the best upgrade to wait for.

Any info gratefully received surprise.

Hello Stephen,

the work done/funded by OU and is already happening -- work on mod/quiz by OU's outstanding Tim Hunt is an example. A lot of what is coming in 1.7 is related to OU.

It is an organic process, similar to how our work for The Open Polytechnic of New Zealand appeared in parts in the later stages of the 1.4.x release series, and then in 1.5 and 1.6. And there will be more in 1.8 wink

(and some local customisations stay private because they are not of general interest)

Is that true that OU also funded the dynamic roles features in Moodle 1.7?

Yes, OU funded the new Roles features in 1.7.

Microsoft funded the new XML database features that let Moodle run on MS SQL (and Oracle).

I wonder how that came about.

'Hello, Moodle Headquarter here...Streuth, Bill Gates!? Yes of course, G'day to you mate....Really? That's very kind of you Mr. Gates. I hear yours works pretty well too....Sure, no problem. It will cost an arm and a leg, but that shouldn't be a problem, eh?
