Moodle.org down since yesterday?

I was trying to get onto moodle.org since yesterday and couldn't. Time out error in browser. I also tried the moodle.com site with no luck. Was there something wrong with server or was it on my end?

I tried other sites and they worked.

What ISP are you connecting from? Moodle.org has been up for me alright, but we know that there is a bit of a problem accessing Moodle.org in NZ from TelecomNZ networks, and it may show up elsewhere too.

People are trying to sort out where the hell the problem is, so more info, better. (If you know how to capture a traceroute, please do and attach it here...!)

hi Martin

I've had this problem with my home Xtra broadband connection since the moodle.org changeover to 1.6 in June. It's weird because I can get moodle.org from my home location by switching to dial-up, but not through broadband. Hours on the phone to Xtra support could not solve the problem. I've attached the traceroute I did then - did another one tonight and it's just the same - lots of stars!

My theory is that theplanet.com is blocking the specific range of IPs that Xtra allocates to broadband (probably because some spammer has used an IP in that range in the past ?) - current IP is 219.89.xx.xx - have tried resetting this but doesn't help.

I found that using other proxy servers helps (there's heaps at http://www.samair.ru/ ) but I've now set up a new location for my PowerBook that uses the Xtra proxy - proxy.xtra.co.nz:8080 - and this has worked OK for the last week or so ..... so I can post here smile

More about this NZ problem here in this thread at theplanet:

ThePlanet say it's in NZ, and NZ says it's ThePlanet.

That's about where mine were dying too (att.net) so I think this is the other, temporary problem that's been happening lately (unrelated to the NZ "bogon filters" problem.

Fixed for me!

It looks like the routing in the networks close to Moodle.org's main server has been fixed. Can others with problems reaching Moodle.org confirm if it's gotten any better?

Open a command prompt on your computer and type: tracert moodle.org

My site used to be hosted in the same place as Moodle.org and when I couldn't access one, I couldn't access the other. I had no problem accessing moodle.org yesterday so it definitely probably had something to do with the route. Usually there is nothing you can do in these cases except wait.

Yes, the whole of theplanet.com (where my servers are) was inaccessible from Australia last night.  I polled a dozen Moodlers via Skype and everyone in US and EU could reach it fine.

Looks like someone made a big routing boo-boo somewhere (my traceroutes ended at att.com).

Looks OK now.

Ahh, that explains the downtime. Glad to be back on the air smile

Was the DB server down for a little bit yesterday?  I had a hard time getting on the forums because of db issues for a little while yesterday.
