Random sound issues for SCORM packages

Random sound issues for SCORM packages

Hi

We recently identified that three of our courses have random sound glitches when played in the Moodle Mobile app. These are in interactive modules loaded as SCORM packages. The modules play perfectly on a desktop and mobile browser, though have the issue in the app. It most commonly occurs on the first slide, though happens on other slides too. A audio file that did not play, may play the next time you open the module and vice versa.

We can't identify anything different to these modules than others where the sound does work. Nor can we find differences in the sound files themselves. We have tried republishing the SCORM packages (developed in Articulate Storyline) but this makes no difference.

Does someone perhaps know what could cause this and how to fix it?

Kind regards
Jessica

Hi Jessica,

does this problem happen in Android, in iOS or both?

We found a similar issue for videos/audios in Android (in our case it was outside of SCORM), we fixed that issue in the 4.4 version of the app (to be released end of May). Here's the issue: MOBILE-4026. If the problem you have only happens in Android then it might be related to that issue.

Kind regards,

Dani

Hi Dani

Thanks for your reply. Managed to get someone to check iOS for me - works perfectly there. So yes, Android specific.

Fingers crossed the update resolves the issue, as it would affect all new content we develop.

Since posting here I've done more testing and written to Articulate Storyline (the content software we use). I had confirmed that content we published before March 2023 worked (last confirmed working file published June 2022), and anything from March 2023 had the issue. I confirmed by republishing a working module with no change and replicated the sound issue. Their support wrote back and suggested it is a configuration or driver in our LMS app that had not been updated since 2022.

As a side note - the same files are affected by an issue in Moodle Desktop, which I realise has been discontinued. Here the files don't open and give a 'rotate your device' error. Where the modules published in 2022 still work fine. I'll create a separate post for this hoping someone may have a solution for that.

Kind regards
Jessica
