Our Moodle contains many hundreds of books. We would like to make about 5 of them printable by the students. But the many others may not be made printable. How can we best approach this?
For the Book Activity look at your Permissions - Book Printing
I believe the default permissions is to allow printing. You would have to remove the permissions from the course>book activities that you would want to restrict printing. IMHO I wish the print permissions could be set at the Site level vs the course level. I have hundreds of book activities.

That default permission for Print Book "booktool/print:print" is allowed for student by default. If you enable/disable a permission at the site level (by editing the student role), I *think* this change at the site-level role-editing does force it's way down into all the courses? Then you could go to the specific books and adjust it at the activity level for specific books.
Thanks for the responses.
Is it possible to have as general setting that students cannot print books and give students more rights in exactly those books that should be printable for students?

Edit the Student role at the Site Level (Users - Permissions - Define Roles) and ensure Print Book is not an enabled permission. Then in each specific Book activity, edit the permissions (I think by selecting "Permissions" in the "More Menu" of newer Moodle versions, and in older Moodle versions you select "Assign roles" or "locally assigned roles" in the admin block and then switching over to "Permissions") and add the Student role next to the capability to Print Book. The Override permissions Docs walks through this with some images/examples
