Hello,
I recently installed the latest version of Moodle Desktop from the App Store on my M1 Mac mini running macOS 14.0 (Sonoma).
Everything runs fine through the login process.
After that, I am unable to remain inside of the app for more than maybe 30-60 seconds before the whole window goes blank white. The only option I'm left with is to quit the app.
It doesn't seem to matter where in the app I am navigating at the time. I could be browsing my courses or just staring off into space - the blank screen always appears and does so rather swiftly.
Maybe I am bad at searching forums, but is there a simple fix for this?
Heads up - I have zero programming experience and the very thought of opening Terminal or Console gives me anxiety, so the simpler the better!
Thank you,
Ross
Hello! Hopefully the Moodle mobile team will see your question after the weekend but as far as I am aware, Moodle desktop was discontinued in 2021 so hasn't been updated - so it is likely that it simply doesn't work with later versions of Moodle.
Thanks for clarifying, Mary. That's unfortunate - I can see (at least for a few seconds) that it's a nicely designed app. Wish it was still active.
The app is still active, it's just that we don't have a dedicated "desktop app" given that it should be possible to install apps from the AppStore to new Mac devices. You can get it here: https://apps.apple.com/app/moodle-mobile/id633359593
Thanks Noel, but check out this screenshot. There is a dedicated Moodle Desktop app still available in the Mac App Store. I do think it has been abandoned, though, judging by its performance.
However, you did inspire a new approach - installing the iPad app onto my Mac. I forgot that was an option these days for a lot of mobile apps.
I just installed the iPad version and, so far, it isn't crashing - so I am happy.
Thank you!

Thanks for letting us know, it seems we had forgotten to remove it. It shouldn't be available for new users from now on.
